First Line Fridays: The Promised Land by Elizabeth Musser

Happy Friday!

First Line Fridays is hosted by Hoarding Books and participants share the first line from a nearby book.

Today, I'm sharing the first line from The Promised Land by Elizabeth Musser.

"I have spent twenty years carefully stitching my family's life together, so when it suddenly starts to unravel I find myself in a tangled knot of anxiety."

Have you read The Promised Land? It's still sitting on my TBR shelf, but I'll get too it one of these days. 😅 Book blurb below.

What are you reading this weekend? I'd love for you to share your book's first line!

Happy reading!

About the Book:

You'd be surprised at what gets through when everything else is taken away.

Abbie Jowett always has every detail perfectly planned out, including her husband's upcoming surprise fiftieth birthday party. But when he surprises her instead with news that he's leaving, she feels her life unraveling. Already distressed by her son Bobby's determination to take a gap year in Europe in addition to her father's failing health, Abbie is immobilized by grief.

Bobby Jowett
has dared to take a gap year to really think about his future. His first stop is volunteering at a refugee center in Austria where he meets a beautiful Iranian girl named Rasa. For idealistic Bobby, it is love at first sight. On the spur of the moment, he invites her to join him in hiking the famed French Camino. But his mother, out of desperation, has also chosen to follow him to France.

Caroline Lefort,
a young photojournalist, is writing an article about pilgrims on the Camino. However, she has been like a wandering pilgrim herself for the past ten years, having abandoned her family after a devastating event.

As the lives of these people intersect, they find that the Camino strips them bare, calling each one into deep soul-searching. Against all odds, can they find themselves again?

"Her happy ending was out there, at the end of the beam of her headlamp, and if Ree kept running, surely she would find it."

I'm sharing the first line from Nicole by Sarah Monzon on my blog: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/11/27/first-line-friday-163/. I'm just beginning chapter 4, so I will share a line from there:
"I'd learned early on in medical school to utilize any spare minute I could find."
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I wish you a relaxing weekend filled with fun reading time! 🙂❤️📚

  3. I’m planning to start An Amish Christmas Wedding this weekend. It’s a collection of four novellas. The first one is called Evergreen Love by Amy Clipston and the first line is ” Lorene lifted her head after a silent prayer and surveyed the supper table, set with her father’s favorite meal.” I hope you are having a great Thanksgiving weekend!

  4. Loved Elizabeth’s book!

My first line is from TO STEAL A HEART by Jen Turano
    November 1886 New York City
It was quickly becoming evident that she, Miss Gabriella Goodhue, might very well be arrested in the nit-too-distant future, and all because she’d convinced herself that sneaking into a high-society costume ball would be a relatively easy feat, given her past life as a street thief .
