AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Q: What was the inspiration behind Hooked On You?

Kathleen: I love to crochet, and when a dear friend of mine introduced me to Arkansas Yarn Co and yarn designer Lorri Ann Helberg, the idea of writing a story featuring a yarn store was born. Knots and Tangles, Erma and Riley’s shop, is inspired by Arkansas Yarn Co.

Q: How long did it take you to write this novel?

Kathleen:Four months of actual writing, but I do a lot of prewriting in my head before putting anything down on paper. All total probably six months.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote from this novel?

Kathleen:There’s a few, but if I had to pick one it would be this: “The star of his family, the town, his own life. Now he would have to let that go and put someone else first…If she would let him.”

Q: What do you hope readers take away from Hooked On You?

Kathleen:I always want readers not only to be entertained, but to feel that by the end of the book they’ve become a part of the story, and that the characters are like old friends.

Q: Would you share something about yourself that most readers would not know?

Kathleen:Most readers know that I have a hard time with math, but not many know why. When I was a senior in high school I was diagnosed with dyscalculia, a learning disability involving math, spatial concepts, and numerical process memory issues, to name a few. Learning disabilities weren’t often identified back in the 70s and 80s when I was in school, thus the late diagnosis. Having dyscalculia was part of the reason I became a special education teacher.

Q: What are you reading now?

Kathleen: The Heart of Splendid Lake, by Amy Clipston. I’m reading the book for endorsement and really enjoying the story and romance. It releases Sept. 14.

Q: How many bookcases are in your home?

Kathleen: Right now, only two, but I used to have a wall of bookcases when I lived in Ohio. When we had to downsize during our move back to my home state of Arkansas, I had to condense my books. I do have hundreds of books on my Kindle, though.

Q: What do you like to do when you are not writing?

Kathleen:Crochet, reading, and traveling. Sometimes all at the same time! J
