Snow flew in Cassie’s wake as she blazed a fresh trail, joy alight in her. This was freedom. If only she could find it in her own life. My Thoughts:

Defending Honor by Kelly Underwood and Lynette Eason delivers plenty of suspense with a strong romance thread. The intense action kept me flipping pages and wondering who the killer was until the big reveal. Attraction flickers between Laila and Preston early in the story (and in their fake marriage), but their unfolding romance didn’t carry my interest as much as I expected it to.

My favorite moments in Defending Honor happened when the characters showed vulnerability and talked through their issues. I liked how Preston wrestled with lying (about the fake marriage) to those around him in order to protect himself and his loved ones. Looking through the quotes I marked, I see a pattern of Laila or Preston dropping a great quote at just the right moment. While none of the quotes rated as a main theme or narrative element, they made me smile and keep reading.

Defending Honor by Kelly Underwood and Lynette Eason stands as the third installment in the Elite Guardians Collection. Characters from Eason’s original series (Elite Guardians) and the prior books in this series (Elite Guardians Collection) combine to give Defending Honor a lot of characters to follow. As such, I recommend reading the novels in order. 3.5 Stars.

Each planned drug buy raked on Charlie’s nerves. The lifestyle wore on him. After a year of setting up his presence in the drug scene and five weeks of full work undercover, he wondered how much more he had in him to continue.

He shoved his hands in his pockets and fiddled with his burner phone. His touchstone. His lifeline to the safe world. Book Review: Driving Force by Lynette Eason and Kate Angelo

My Thoughts:

Driving Force by Lynette Eason and Kate Angelo offers a highly entertaining story with plenty of suspense and mystery. The novel’s plot clips along from the beginning and held my attention throughout. Having a wheelchair bound hero (Grey) and a military dog (Boss) set this book apart from others in the romantic suspense genre. Grey and Boss felt especially unique and admirable. Boss proved to be amazing in many ways – his loyalty, intelligence, training, and intuition.

While Driving Force piles on the tense moments, Grey and Christina both have spiritual and emotional issues to deal with. The characters struggle with the answers they find, and that process added a depth that I appreciated. As expected, the action of the story takes center stage, but the character development enhances the story with its presence.

Driving Force by Lynette Eason and Kate Angelo stands as the first novel in the Elite Guardians Collection from Sunrise Publishing. This series spins off from Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians Series, which I have not read. It was easy to guess which women were part of the former series, but sometimes difficult to keep all the side characters straight. Driving Force works as a stand-alone novel and gives this new series a strong start. I look forward to reading the forthcoming novels in the Elite Guardians Collection. Four stars!

No Place to Hide is the third book in Lynette Eason's Hidden Identity Series and works fine as a stand-alone novel. I have not read the previous two books, but did not feel that I was missing any pertinent information.

 

No Place to Hide met my expectations with a suspense-filled plot and a tad of romance. Jackie and Ian's relationship developed quite nicely, but the focus was more on what was happening and less on romantic moments or overtures. This is not necessarily a bad thing as perhaps too much romance would have slowed things down. The story kept me guessing about who was behind the smallpox release and I liked that the individual scenes seemed original. I haven't read a lot of suspense novels so I can't be completely sure of it's originality, but it wasn't overly predictable to me. I recommend No Place to Hide by Lynette Eason to fans of inspirational suspense novels.

When the Smoke Clears by Lynette Eason

Lynette Eason is one of my favorite authors for Christian suspense/romance novels. When the Smoke Clears is the first book in the Deadly Reunions series and it did not disappoint. Eason's flawless writing combined with the mystery and suspense aspects of the plot kept me hooked throughout the whole story. Alexia's character was complex, well-developed and authentic. The story had plenty of closure and yet the epilogue now has me awaiting the next installment in the series. I recommend this book if you are looking for an inspirational, contemporary romance with plenty of suspense.

A Killer Among Us by Lynette Eason

One-by-one law students are dying. Hostage negiotiator Kit Kenyon and her partner, Detective Noah Lambert, must hunt the serial killer known only as The Judge. With a few pieces of confusing evidence as their leads in the case, Kit and Noah struggle to stay safe when they become The Judge's next targets. Kit and Noah are targeted for two completely different purposes, but as they devote time and energy to finding the person behind the killings, they discover there is more than a common goal between them. Grisly murders, recently discovered family issues, and her attractive partner keep Kit's mind occupied. Will they find The Judge before he finds them? Can she ever forgive her mother for the past? And will both of them live long enough to consider more than a working relationship?

I enjoyed A Killer Among Us by Lynette Eason. The plot's pace was perfect – not crazy fast, but not boringly slow. As the evidence grew, so did the twists of the plot and the sense of suspense. The characters were well-written, especially Noah Lambert. He managed to be the hero that is often prevalent in Christian fiction, but not in a preachy or stereotypical way. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of romance in the book. Most crime fiction I've read has a only a hint of romance. A Killer Among Us, while not an over-the-top romance, had lovely little romantic moments that led to a beautiful ending.

A Killer Among Us by Lynette Eason is quite descriptive and therefore more poignant than other comparable Christian suspense books. I actually got creeped out during some of the scenes involving The Judge. Because of that, I would not recommend this book to anyone under the age of fifteen. However, if you can handle some gruesome details and a few minutes in the mind of a deranged serial killer, you will probably enjoy this crime suspense novel. Despite the creepiness, I would read it again.
