Cole tucked his chin against his chest as he walked past the surveillance camera in the hotel hallway. The ballcap on his head would hide his face in case anyone happened to be watching—or more precisely, if anyone watched the camera’s feed later.

Not that he was doing anything illegal. Well, not really. He wasn’t sure the Budapest police force would approve of him entering a hotel room that didn’t belong to him without consulting with them first, but the little piece of paper in Cole’s pocket gave him permission to do it.

Sian Ann Bessey was born in Cambridge, England, and grew up on the island of Anglesey off the coast of North Wales. Since then, she has published historical romance and romantic suspense novels, along with a variety of children’s books. Sian and her husband, Kent, are the parents of five children and the grandparents of three beautiful girls and two handsome boys. Laura’s mind raced as she replayed her captors’ most recent conversation. At times like these, she wished her hearing weren’t quite so keen and that she didn’t speak these men’s language. Surely, it would be better not to know they intended to kill her. She had liked it better when all they’d talked about was where something was hidden. She wasn’t sure what they were searching for, nor did she care if they found it. What mattered was how long these men planned to let her live.

Her entire body tensed at the future she wouldn’t have, at the opportunities she hadn’t taken. She had so looked forward to exploring new areas in Honduras and spending more time with her abuela and reconnecting with her Latin culture. The scenery, the food, the language, the friendships. Author Interview

Q: What was the inspiration behind Unseen?

Traci: I don’t know that there was a specific moment or idea that inspired this book. I really just started with the idea of how Manuel came into the guardian program and let the story unfold from there.


Q: How long did it take you to write this story?

Traci: This book took longer than usual because I was the state meet director for the two highest division in high school swimming while writing it. At the same time, I was also chairing a writers conference in Kansas City. From the first word written until I finished the rough draft, it took me about four months.


Q: Do you have a favorite quote from this book?

Traci: “…she had put all of her trust in a man who wouldn’t even tell her his name.”


Q: What do you hope readers take away from Unseen?

Traci: I hope Unseen gives readers a new appreciation of both the people who work so diligently to protect others as well as the beauty of Honduras, both its scenery and its culture.


Q: Would you share something about yourself that most readers would not know?

Traci: Whenever possible, I travel with a blender so I can make a smoothie for my breakfast. I know it’s strange, but I feel better if I can eat the way I’m used to while on the road.


Q: How many bookcases are in your home?

Traci: My children keep stealing my bookcases, so I think I’m down to about ten.


Q: How long ago did you start writing?

Traci: I started writing when I was a senior in college, but I didn’t complete my first novel until about seven years later, right about the time I was leaving the CIA. From there, it took me another six or seven years to hone my craft enough to create anything that was publishable.


Q: What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

Traci: The people. I love being able to get to know other authors, people who think it’s normal to have fictional characters running around in your head and demanding your attention. I also love meeting readers who love to get lost in those fictional worlds.


Q: What do you like to do when you are not writing?

Traci: Traveling is one of my favorite past times, but when I’m at home, I also enjoy baking and gardening.

My Thoughts:

Though written by four authors, Heirs of Falcon Point traces the story of the original Lang family and their descendants with precision and consistency. I appreciated the author contribution page which listed author responsibilities by character. I had previously read one novel by A. L. Sowards, but Heirs of Falcon Point introduced me to Paige Edwards, Sian Ann Bessey, and Traci Hunter Abramson.

Heirs of Falcon Point commences with the Lang family in 1940 Austria and captured my attention right away. Though a bit heart-rending, this was the easiest part of the story to read as it chronicled the dangerous flight from their beloved home and country. Once the plot switched to present day (at chapter 14) to focus on the Lang family descendants, I still liked the story, but only read one or two chapters at a time. The four descendants, plus their love interests, entered the story and the narrative jumped around between all the characters. Due to the complexity of the characters and accompanying narratives, I had difficulty getting invested in any of them. Of the romances, I enjoyed Beckett and Anna’s second chance romance the best.  Once the cousins became aware of their Falcon Point inheritance and the stories began to converge together, I found the novel more pleasurable to read.

Heirs of Falcon Point by Traci Hunter Abramson, Sian Ann Bessy, Paige Edwards, and A. L. Sowards is an interesting story. I would likely enjoy this story more on a second read as I’d have less difficulty keeping everything straight.

A. L. Sowards has always been fascinated by the 1940s, but she’s grateful she didn’t live back then. She doesn’t think she could have written a novel on a typewriter, and no one would be able to read her handwriting if she wrote her books out longhand. She does, however, think they had the right idea when they rationed nylon and women went barelegged.
