Genre: Inspirational Contemporary Romance
Essie White battles loneliness two years after the death of her husband. Her romance-writing daughter suggests that her mother try online dating. Essie agrees, seeking male companionship only, not a love interest.
Widower Lou Rizzo isn’t seeking love either. But he accepts his friend’s dare and posts his profile on the dating site, although he uses an alias to safeguard his identity.
Essie and Lou meet, and their initial attraction soon develops into a friendship neither wants to lose. Lou, however, must confess his part in a decades-old incident that he feels Essie cannot forgive. She, too, harbors secrets that may jeopardize their future together.
As the relationship grows, each must decide whether to reveal the truth about their past mistakes, lost dreams, and fears for a chance to love again.
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
What was the inspiration behind Seasoned?
Jayme: Seasoned was inspired by the true-life, love story between my mother, Janet, and her twelve-year companion, Frank. After each enjoying long and happy marriages, their spouses passed. Janet and Frank actually met online and shared the most wonderful love, adventures, and vibrant living. A great deal of the story is woven in truth!
How long did it take you to write this novel?
Jayme: Oh, my. This was a slow boat! I wrote it over the course of four years!
Do you have a favorite quote from this novel?
Jayme: Tough question for sure! However, I love this one as it captures the essence of their love, “Refusing to be rushed and say something defensive, I arranged my thoughts, beliefs, hopes, and dreams like a beautiful bouquet. “Your father and I understand that love isn’t reserved for only the young.” I stepped closer to her. “Dear, love knows no age. It simply knows what’s in the hearts of those who choose to embrace it.”
What do you hope readers take away from Seasoned?
Jayme: At its core, Seasoned reminds us that love knows no age. We were created and intended to love at every stage of our lives. Presented with the chance to love one last time … would you take it? This is a story of forgiveness, hope, and love … with a happy ending. I love happy endings! 😀
Would you share something about yourself that most readers wouldn’t know?
Jayme: My favorite place to be is on a horse in the wide open, prairie grasses – my heaven on earth. If not there, being in front of my easel with my two Golden Retrievers, Millie and Bella, underfoot, is a beautiful place to be.
What are you reading now?
Jayme: The Lost Vintage by Ann Mah – Hey, if I can’t travel to France now, why not read about it? I’m also enjoying In His Image ~ 10 Ways God Calls Us to Reflect His Character by Jen Wilken.
How many bookcases are in your home?
Jayme: Great question! At last count, seven (and not counting baskets!). I’ve been on a splurge to simplify the house but can’t seem to minimize the books. Twenty plus years as an elementary school teacher doesn’t help!
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Jayme: Work in my art studio, mostly painting large florals on canvas, playing with the dogs, spending time with my family. We have a very full house right now – two college sons, my husband, and even moved my mother here … yes, the inspiration for Seasoned is in the house! 😀
