He took a deep breath. Well, if it couldn’t be him, at least he could keep an eye out for her, make sure whoever did approach her was worthy of her. He found a small satisfaction in appointing himself to the role of bodyguard. It meant he could allow himself to still show up where she was, still enjoy her beauty and innocence. But that would be the end of it. He would limit himself to that. He would treat her like she was still a married woman.
