Lies have kept them apart for eight years.

Bomb squad leader Tag Monroe’s world is shattered when his sister and her foster sister are abducted by a human trafficker. Eight years later, the two of them have been miraculously freed. As thrilled as he is to be reunited with his sister, Tag has lingering questions.

How did Jae-won Lin, the third foster sister, elude capture that night? Why didn’t she call the police or Tag to let them know what happened? And where has she been for the last eight years? He loved Jae once, but he can’t let her back into his life until he has more information.

Unfortunately, time is running out. Someone powerful is coming after Jae, bent on revenge. If Tag can’t get to her before her mysterious pursuer, Jae could take the answers to all Tag’s questions to her grave.

Along with any hope the two of them might have to find their way to each other again.

The explosive Christian romantic suspense series two sparrows for a penny by multi-award-winning author Sara Davison continues with this on-the-edge-suspense love story that might finally answer the question: Where was Jae?

Excerpt

The muscles that had gone tense loosened. “All right, look. Even if we were really young, maybe we did feel that way once. Me, anyway. But too much has happened. I can’t feel that way now.”

Cole pursed his lips. “Interesting wording. You can’t, not that you don’t. Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself.” He held up a hand when Tag started to protest. “You have no idea what happened to Jae. She loves Tala and Rose. If she’d been able to let anyone know what happened to them, she would have done it.”

Tag ran the side of his good hand across his forehead, leaving a damp streak. “I guess you’re right.”

“I am right. Something happened to her too. And my guess is it was traumatic. My advice is to keep an open mind so that, when you do track her down, you’ll be able to hear her out.”

“So, you’re saying I shouldn’t shoot first and ask questions later? Because that was my plan.”

Cole laughed. “I don’t recommend that, no. Even if it turns out that Jae isn’t as innocent as I believe she is, Rose and Tala won’t appreciate you shooting their sister.”

“She shot me first,” Tag muttered.

Author Interview with Sara

Q:
What was the inspiration behind Every Bird That Falls?

The inspiration behind the two sparrows for a penny series came from a talk I heard at a women’s conference on human trafficking. We were in Ottawa, my country’s capital, and the speaker said that if we were staying in a hotel that night, which we were, there was a very high likelihood that someone in the building would be trafficked that night. Her talk drove home for me how prevalent this pure evil is and planted the seeds for what would become this series. While Every Bird That Falls doesn’t focus on trafficking like the first two books, it touches on it and emphasizes again the theme that no matter what our circumstances, what we have done or has been done to us, God sees us, cares for us, loves us, and will never abandon us.

Q: How long did it take you to write this story?

Normally it takes me about six months to write a book and get it ready to publish. In the case of Every Bird That Falls, I had fallen behind in my writing due to unexpected life circumstances—the loss of my husband’s job and a subsequent move—and ended up having to write almost all of it in a month. Not something I recommend or would like to do often, but through God’s grace I was able to get it done.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote from this book?

I have several favorite quotes, but I’ll share this one:

Jae dabbed at the wound in his shoulder. “I need to clear enough blood away to figure out what we’re dealing with.”

“What we’re dealing with? Seems I’m the only one having to deal with it.”

“You’re a big, strong man. You can handle it.”

If any woman had ever said big, strong man with less admiration in her voice, Tag hadn’t heard it.

Q: What do you hope readers take away from Every Bird That Falls?

The theme of every book I write, and the books in the two sparrows for a penny series most of all, is that we are never alone. That God sees us, knows us, watches over us, and loves us no matter what we are going through or what we have done or has been done to us. With every story I send into the world, I pray that those truths will go deep into my readers’ hearts and encourage them and give them hope.

Q: Would you share something about yourself that most readers would not know?

Although I am now one of those people for whom public speaking is a greater fear than death, I actually won several public speaking awards when I was in public school. Then I started writing my sister’s speeches and realized that was the side I wanted to be on—creating the stories for other people to share or read.

Q: How long ago did you start writing?

I’ve always enjoyed writing stories, and I have a vivid memory of being about nine years old and walking up and down the aisles of our local library, running my fingers along the spines and thinking, All these people wrote a book. It can be done. I could do this. I didn’t start seriously writing until about fifteen years ago though, when the idea for an entire story came into my head during church one Sunday morning. That idea became my first book and my only standalone—The Watcher.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

The absolute best thing for me is hearing from a reader that one of my stories drew them closer to God. That is the work of the Holy Spirit, not me, but it is an incredible blessing when He uses my words that way. My second favorite thing is being part of the community of writers and readers of Christian fiction, as it is such a beautiful, supportive, encouraging family.

Q:Do you prefer to read ebooks or physical copies?

Tough question to answer. I resisted ebooks for many years, but finally gave in and bought an e-reader since it is extremely convenient (and usually cheaper). Having said that, reading an actual book is an experience that cannot be duplicated electronically, and if convenience and money were no objects, I would go with a real book every time.

Q: How many bookcases are in your home?

Actually, I don’t have a lot of books in my home. I used to, and I loved every one of them, but my husband and I have moved eleven times in our twenty-eight years of marriage, and it just wasn’t feasible to keep moving around boxes of books. When I need a physical copy in my hands, I go to the library and treat myself to a book or two.

Q: What do you like to do when you are not writing?

When I’m not actually sitting at my computer (which doesn’t mean I’m not writing in my head) I love spending time with my husband, Michael, and our three mostly grown kids. I also love going for coffee or a meal out with friends, writing retreats at a cottage, road trips, reading, long walks along the water, going to live theatre, or watching movies, preferably old classics with Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, or Gregory Peck.
