About the Author
As a former youth pastor, Chuck Carr has influenced hundreds of people throughout his life. Author of The Convergence, Navigating Grief, All That the Locusts Have Eaten, and Wonders In The Deep, he desires to help others live effectively despite hardships, as his testimony proves that sufferings can be changed into blessings. Losing a spouse in 2008, he strives to help those hurting from the same pain. While working on the family dairy farm, a life altering accident in 2018 left him with a traumatic brain injury, and his vision and life goal has been refocused to help others heal from devastating traumas. Now remarried to a woman of shared life goals, he has chosen to live with purpose despite his injuries, being an inspiration to others. Sometimes life hits you unexpected, and when it doesn’t let up, you might feel a bit bewildered. That was me, when time after time I kept getting up, only to get knocked right back down again. I couldn’t understand why bad things kept happening to me, a good person, a good man. I was doing things the right way, so I thought. I married a God-fearing woman. I was using my life for God’s purpose. I had devoted my life to teaching the next generation as a youth pastor. Everything should have been smooth and easy, right? Amid a dark storm, nothing seemed easy. Why hardship hit so relentlessly was a mystery to me. Things didn’t seem fair. And when nothing made sense, I was reeling, searching, and found myself on the backside of the wilderness screaming to a God who only seemed to have a deaf ear turned my way. Sound familiar? In this book, I take you on a great journey to find answers when most answers seemed bleak, if not non-existent. Take God’s hand with me, he’s there, I promise. Author Interview with Chuck
Q: Please give us a little introduction to your book.
Chuck: If we still breathe the breath of life, there is still hope. No matter how bad and desperate things may look or seem, as long as air passes through our lungs and a heartbeat pumps in our chest, we still have the hope that God can do something significant in our lives. He is always working. I want readers to read the pages of All That the Locusts Have Eaten and see the small candlelight of hope grow in their own life. As they see what God did with me, may they see a hope reflected in themselves. Hope. That’s what it’s all about.
Q: What do you hope readers take away from your book?
Chuck: I want readers to read the book’s last words, close the cover, and realize deep inside their heart there is hope for them⎯no matter what situation they are in. As I look around the world in which we live, there are hurting people every direction you turn. Some are in crazy difficult situations. Some don’t know what to do. Some have lost loved ones, their jobs, the light in their eyes. I want people to read my story and see that with God, there is always hope. Yes, hope. It is the one thing that keeps us going. One small candlelight of hope can defend a nation, keep a world spinning, and give purpose to a hurting soul in need. The men and women, heroes and heroines of the Bible, they all had that hope. The Lord saw them through. He saw me through just the same. And after reading All That the Locusts Have Eaten, I pray that others see that a loving God will see them through as well.
Q: Would you share something about yourself that most readers wouldn’t know?
Chuck: I would suppose that the average person watching me speak or reading one of my books would pick me out of a crowd as an extrovert, one who would go out of their way to find a platform to stand on, but that isn’t the case. People think it’s easy for me to speak or write or expose myself in vulnerability. But I didn’t start out that way. Now, don’t get me wrong⎯I do love people. But I was definitely not the kid in school who was volunteering first for class presentations. In fact, speeches once nearly petrified me. I hated speaking in front of my peers. I guess it just goes to show you how true scripture is as 2 Corinthians states: For when I am weak, then I am strong. God gave me a job to do and is empowering me with the strength to do it. The same empowerment can be for everyone in other circumstances. He no doubt will equip us with what we need to do his work.
Q: In what setting do you enjoy writing the most?
Chuck: To be honest, I have a mobile office. I love working that way. I have an old Dodge Ram, and my favorite place to write is anywhere outside. I jump in for a drive, head to a hilltop, or streambank, or lakeview, and turn my hotspot on so I have signal for my laptop. I find peace out in the countryside of the hills I grew up in. I love to be in nature⎯the beauty that God created all around us grounds me, I suppose. When I’m immersed in it the creativity flows so much easier. Now of course, I do have a desk at home. Every writer has to pay their dues and put the desk time in. I just prefer to not use mine (haha). Being outside is the best for me.
