Book Review: The Bound Heart by Dawn Crandall

About the Book:

One accidental kiss. That was all it took to throw Meredyth Summercourt's world upside-down. Determined to marry the ever-elusive Vance Everstone, she simply doesn't have the time or the desire to fall for her friend Lawry Hampton. However, with Vance out of the country and Lawry constantly at her side, Meredyth can’t help but wonder if what’s holding her to Vance is nothing more than a desire to redeem herself from their unfortunate past.

When Vance comes home to stake his claim on Meredyth, will she be strong enough to break free from the tangled web she’s convinced she deserves? Or will she find the strength to accept that God’s plan for her life could include redemption... and quite possibly the love of her best-friend?

My Thoughts:

I expect The Bound Heart by Dawn Crandall to land on my list of 2022’s Top Reads. The prologue’s content almost made me put the book down and might be triggering for some, but as I continued into the story, Meredyth and Lawry’s relationship hooked my attention. I read this gritty romance in less than twenty-four hours (a rarity, for me).

The hero in The Bound Heart, Lawry, rates as one of my favorite Christian fiction heroes. The way he loved Meredyth, even when she was broken and misguided, reflected Jesus’ unselfish love for the church. Lawry’s romantic intentions led to plenty of swoony moments, and I loved his persistent flirtations. Though Meredyth’s ultimate healing came from God, Lawry served an integral part, pointing her towards a beautiful redemption.

The Bound Heart stands as the second installment in The Everstone Chronicles by Dawn Crandall. I recommend reading the novels in order. It had been over a year since I read book one, The Hesitant Heiress, and it took me a few chapters to remember who all the characters were. I highly recommend this story to fans of Christian who enjoy romantic sizzle in lush, historical settings.
