Had Jackson led the boys up there? If so, it wouldn’t have been by choice. They had either gotten lost or they’d been forced by gunpoint.
And that thought scared her to the core.
Lord, I don’t understand. Why haven’t You shown me where they are?
Mitchell sat beside her and nudged her leg. “What are you thinking?”
His compassionate tone revealed the kindness she remembered from years ago. His closeness played on her emotions, sending her heart’s rhythm into overdrive.
Dare she share her true thoughts? He’d only just come back into her life today. He hadn’t wanted to talk about God earlier, so would her doubts tear him further from his faith?
She looked away, biting her lip. “I’m scared you’ll judge me as a hypocrite.”
He squeezed her hand. “Never.”
“I just don’t understand why God isn’t showing me where my son is after I’ve pleaded with Him all day.”
“I’m no expert on God, but I remember my mom saying once that sometimes we may not understand His silence, but He will answer. In His timing.”
She let out a staggered breath. “But what if I don’t like the answer?”
“Then He will give you the strength to endure the storm.” His pregnant pause thundered in the forest. “At least, that’s what my mom told me.”
Was it really that simple?
