Blog Blitz & Giveaway: Palmer Girl by Dawn Klinge

Palmer Girl Blog Blitz

Welcome to the Blog Blitz & Giveaway for Palmer Girl by Dawn Klinge, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Palmer Girl

Title: Palmer Girl
Series: The Historic Hotels Collection #2
Author: Dawn Klinge
Release Date: September 29, 2020
Genre: Historical Romance

When insurance tycoon, Cornelius Nordeman, is recruited to work for the Exposition Corporation, the New Yorker brings his family to live at the Palmer House Hotel, far away from any reminders of a recent tragedy. He’s hopeful this move will offer respite from his family's grief.

Elizabeth Nordeman, his daughter, has something to prove, which leads her to seek work as a florist at Marshall Field’s, Chicago's finest department store.

John Lewis knows something is different and intriguing about the new florist he hired. When his boss, Marshall Field, informs him that Elizabeth is the Nordeman heiress, his job suddenly becomes more complicated--especially when he finds himself falling for her.

On the eve of the Columbian Exposition of 1893, Chicago prepares to prove that it’s a first-class city, and the brightest minds from around the country will plan the most spectacular fair the world has seen.

The World’s Fair will bring change and innovation into a society bound tightly by class and tradition. Elizabeth’s heart longs to push against those boundaries, so what’s holding her back?

EXCERPT

“Who is Mr. Lewis?” asked Sissy.
“He’s in charge of visual merchandising, though I’m not even sure what that means.” She pulled on her gloves.
“It means, he’s probably the person who created this beautiful display right there.”
Elizabeth studied the scene in front of her. The dressmaker dummy in the window wore a sapphire silk evening gown by Worth. Thousands of delicate crystals hung from the ceiling, creating an effect of stars. Elizabeth could envision herself in the dress, dancing in a beautiful ballroom. Whoever designed this breathtaking window was an artist.
Mr. Lewis had given her a job, and for that, she was grateful. One thing she couldn’t deny—the man was good at his job— if these were, indeed, his window displays. They were the talk of the town. People were always milling about the sidewalk outside the store and admiring the stunning displays.

ABOUT THE BOOK

the brave art of motherhood Title: The Brave Art of Motherhood: Fight Fear, Gain Confidence, and Find Yourself Again
Author: Rachel Marie Martin
Publisher: WaterBrook
Release Date: October 9, 2018
Genre: Christian Living/Women's Interest

Full-time FindingJoy.net blogger, speaker, marketer, podcaster, and single mom of seven, Rachel Marie Martin presents a wake-up call to those of us who have found ourselves stuck in the 'I'm just a mom' phase of life.

Yes, this book is about motherhood . . . but really, this book is about finding yourself again and following your passion WHILE being a mom. Inspired by her incredible story, Rachel's words always come straight from the gut; they are visceral, real and soul searching. She challenges you to find the courage to break cycles, to take off masks and not let fear take control. This book is a balance of tough, "no excuses" ways of approaching life, while allowing breathing room and grace for yourself, for as we all know, life and mothering are not perfect.

After inspiring and conversing with thousands of women, Rachel has surmised there is always a reason to hope, to move forward and a reason to dare doing what you thought was impossible. (Yes, including what you are skeptical of accomplishing right now). She encourages you to say yes to your dreams and stop waiting for "someday" or "one day" or "when something happens".

Excerpt from Chapter Two of The Sleuth’s Dilemma

NANCY DALEY LOCKED UP THE LIBRARY and set out on foot for home. Spring in Oregon wasn’t always this sunny, and she intended to enjoy every minute even if there was something weird going on at the library. A dog barked, drawing her attention. “Well, if it isn’t Freddy.” She waved toward her friend and neighbor, Anna. “Are you headed home?”

“We are. Looks like we’ll get that walk in after all.”

Nancy came into step with the duo. “Seems so.” Although it wouldn’t be the power walk they normally did. “What brings you and Freddy downtown?” “The park.”
Nancy raised a brow. “That’s not normal, is it?” “Not really. It sounded like a good idea today though. As it turned out, a guy from work was there with his dog.”

Something in the tone of Anna’s voice put Nancy on alert. Could the confirmed bachelorette have finally met a man she was interested in—not likely, but something was different about her friend. “A teacher?”

“No. The new guidance counselor. I suppose he’s not new anymore, but this is his first year. Do you know Titus Gains?”

This must be the Mr. Gains she’d overheard a couple of high school girls talking about in the magazine section. “No, but I heard he’s cute.”

“Cute? Hardly.” Anna shook her head. “He’s too...manly to be cute.” A twinkle lit her eyes.

“You like him.” Nancy grinned. “I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to.”
“I work with him.”

“So?”

“So, it’s...it’s—”

“It’s what?” Nancy teased.

“It’s a bad idea to go there.”

“I don’t see why. He’s a single man. You’re a single woman. He’s manly. You’re a doll. What’s the problem?”

Anna giggled. “Oh, stop it. I’m not a doll, and he’s not interested.”

Blog Blitz: A Most Inconvenient Love by Ruth Logan Herne

a most inconvenient love blitz

Welcome to the Blog Blitz and Giveaway for A Most Inconvenient Love by Ruth Logan Herne, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!
ABOUT THE BOOK

A Most Inconvenient Love - Front Cover Title: A Most Inconvenient Love
Series: Prairie Brides #1
Author: Ruth Logan Herne
Genre: Historical/Western Romance
Release Date: February 26, 2019

Sober businessman Seb Ward may have come from a wealthy lumber-baron family in Minnesota, but he knows that appearances can be deceiving, and that his illustrious family is pretty dysfunctional. Being in another state has provided the buffer he sought from his father’s misdeeds, but when a little boy shows up on a train… a little boy who looks enough like Seb to be his own child… Seb’s faced with a dilemma. Raise the boy as his own, or let his mother suffer the embarrassment of “a brother by another mother.” And when the boy takes a shine to the Rachel Eichas, the newly contracted school teacher, Seb can’t help but do the same.

But Rachel was raised by an unloving, business-first father and there’s no way she’s looking for those same qualities in a husband. Can she see through Seb’s focus and drive to find the loving man within?

EXCERPT:

The shouts of children drew his attention as school let out.
He walked that way. He wanted to see Eli.
You mean Rachel, his conscience scolded.
Both, he decided. And when he spotted her closing up the school, he increased his speed.
He’d missed her. He’d missed the boy. He’d never much missed anything before, not since Artie died, but these last few days had been filled with sharp longing.
She saw him coming and paused, on the top step. The autumn wind puffed her gown and wisped her hair into tiny, feathered ringlets around her cheeks, and the urge to tame that hair and kiss those cheeks and then her mouth...
Her sweet, beautiful mouth...
Swept over him.

Blog Blitz: The Sewing Sisters' Society by Ruth Logan Herne

sewing sisters society blog blitz

Welcome to the Blog Blitz and Giveaway for The Sewing Sisters' Society, a collection of historical novellas by Ruth Logan Herne, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Sewing Sisters Cover 2 (4) Title: The Sewing Sisters' Society
Author: Ruth Logan Herne
Genre: Historical/Western Romance novellas
Release Date: January 22, 2019

Hattie McGillicuddy might not look like your typical matchmaker, but Hattie makes things happen in the little town of Second Chance, South Dakota. With the arrival of the railroad and official statehood, Hattie’s determined to bring brides west, and not just any brides. Brides who need the wide open prairie as much as the prairie- and the prairie men- need them! Three pioneer stories of unlikely love are woven around a little town full of homespun characters that take us back to another place and another time but with the same faith, hope and love we cherish today.

Macy can’t sew a lick, and she’s come to town with a sacrifice and a secret, but when Hattie’s first apprentice is attracted to the pastor of the only church in town—the man raising her illegitimate son— will the truth set her free? Or make her leave the town and her son behind? (The Pastor Takes a Wife)

Unjustly accused, Nellie comes west to escape the law. She has a way with tucks and gathers, and every Western town could use more tucks and gathers. She’s determined to improve the drab look of the prairie and manages to brighten hearts as well. But will her quick speech and firm ideas of women’s suffrage draw Levi Eichas closer or send the somber carriage maker running? (Second Chance Christmas)

Grief has robbed Ann Hazel, but when her aunt pushes her to go west and help an ailing Hattie McGillicuddy turn hems, Ann’s shamed into it. She’s managed to avoid life for awhile, but when Sol Eichas’s nanny comes down sick, Ann reluctantly agrees to help. As she winds her way around Sol’s heart and home, can the two troubled souls leave the past behind to embrace a future together? (Second Chance at Love)

EXCERPT FROM A Second Chance at Love:

Ann should have stayed right where she was in Pennsylvania.

Guilt, fear and sorrow made for somber seatmates as the dark train chugged west across desolate land. Beiges and browns mixed with hints of gray, and the three stretched wide in every direction, occasionally broken by claim shacks looking no bigger than the muskrat lodges in Crawford Pond.

Quick tears stung her eyes.

She couldn’t think of water. Of her home. Her old home, she corrected herself. Or her life there.

The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want…

Well, He wasn’t her shepherd. He wasn’t any such thing, He wasn’t Lord, God or any other lofty name men of the cloth spewed.

He was nothing. Nothing at all.

Ann squared her shoulders and lifted her chin in anger because anger was so much better than all those other feelings combined. Anger was manageable, most times.

The rest?

She clung to her satchel and the anger, sure of both. She’d boarded this train at Aunt Jean Ellen’s insistence. Her maiden aunt meant well, but if it wasn’t for Jean Ellen’s friend needing immediate help, Ann would have stayed tucked in the valley, waiting for the sun to rise and then fall each day, an acceptable monotony. She’d go back to that soon enough, once she got her aunt’s friend Hattie on the mend.

ABOUT THE BOOK

lady of a thousand treasures
Title: Lady of a Thousand Treasures
Author: Sandra Byrd
Publisher: Tyndale House
Release Date: October 9, 2018
Genre: Historical/Gothic Romance

Miss Eleanor Sheffield is a talented evaluator of antiquities, trained to know the difference between a genuine artifact and a fraud. But with her father’s passing and her uncle’s decline into dementia, the family business is at risk. In the Victorian era, unmarried Eleanor cannot run Sheffield Brothers alone.
The death of a longtime client, Baron Lydney, offers an unexpected complication when Eleanor is appointed the temporary trustee of the baron’s legendary collection. She must choose whether to donate the priceless treasures to a museum or allow them to pass to the baron’s only living son, Harry—the man who broke Eleanor’s heart.

Eleanor distrusts the baron’s motives and her own ability to be unbiased regarding Harry’s future. Harry claims to still love her and Eleanor yearns to believe him, but his mysterious comments and actions fuel her doubts. When she learns an Italian beauty accompanied him on his return to England, her lingering hope for a future with Harry dims.

With the threat of debtor’s prison closing in, Eleanor knows that donating the baron’s collection would win her favor among potential clients, saving Sheffield Brothers. But the more time she spends with Harry, the more her faith in him grows. Might Harry be worthy of his inheritance, and her heart, after all? As pressures mount and time runs out, Eleanor must decide whom she can trust—who in her life is false or true, brass or gold—and what is meant to be treasured.

PURCHASE: Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | CBD | Book Depository

EXCERPT

My stomach lurched. " I am to decide if Harry is dis-inherited or not?"

Sir Matthew grimaced as I mistakenly used that familiar name. "Harry? There is no engagement, is there? His father was given to believe . . ."

I shook my head. "There is no arrangement." That had become clear when he'd promised to return by early last spring, but did not return for six months more, and then, I'd since learned, with a Venetian beauty in tow.

"You have no professional contracts with the South Kensington, either?" Sir Matthew asked. "It would be best if, during the period of trusteeship, you have no personal or professional understanding with either party which could call your objectivity into question."

I shook my head again. I could but wish that Sheffield Brothers had a professional arrangement with the budding museum or its supporters.
